Get ready for an dose of pink, DIY, and tons of amazing blog content! This weeks Kick-Ass Woman is one who rocks the blogging world and is now taking the motivational speaking world by storm. Introducing Melissa Johnson, the wonderful lady who founded Best Friends for Frosting. If you’re looking for any sort of creative inspiration or guidance, Melissa put it all in one place for you. Throw in her experience working with some of the BIGGEST names ever (including Martha Stewart and Better Homes and Gardens), and you’ve got one super woman. Check out why she chose the super unique name and her top advice below!1. How on earth did you come up with the name "Best Friends for Frosting"? It's most certainly a fabulous and unique title!
Six years ago I walked on a team to raise money for breast cancer. The team was called “breast friends forever.” I thought it was really clever, so when it came to naming my own business, I did a twist on the whole best friend thing.

2. You seem to have a passion for helping and inspiring others, whether it be through giving tips and ideas on BFFF or motivational speaking. Do you prefer connecting with your audience through writing or speaking more?
I am so deeply passionate about motivational speaking. My true blue passion is teaching people to become the best version of themselves - the version they had no idea existed, though it always really has. It’s so important to love your life inside and out and all around. Sometimes all it takes is a shift in your perspective, while other times it can take creative moves like changing up your surroundings. These are all things we talk about on Best Friends For Frosting. I guess that is a whole blog post within itself! ;) When it comes to connecting with our audience, writing and speaking both definitely have their pros, but I am such an energetic person that I feel speaking allows me to bring my whole self to the table. 3. You've gotten to be a brand ambassador to so many amazing brands, as well as working with some of the biggest household names ever, like Martha Stewart! Did you even imagine being at this place?
I visualized it from the get-go, but it felt so far away and so hard to do. This year we have hit so many goals that felt impossible. It’s still wild to be on the other side of that list, but I can honestly tell you that passion made it all possible. I am so grateful for all of the brands and the opportunities that allow our team to do something that we are all so passionate about.

4. Do you have any advice to women looking to branch out and start their own blog or business, but they might be hesitant because of the uncertainty that comes with taking that leap?
You can sit on an amazing idea for 10 years and never do it, but we all know how awful that feels. My biggest piece of advice is to start before you’re ready! One of the most fulfilling experiences in life is finding your true calling. When you discover that passion, create your dream job with it. You’re the pilot and the sky's the limit! With passion behind it, you will be so good that others can’t ignore you. ;) 5. What's next on the agenda for you and Best Friends for Frosting? You can already check having your own project with Darby Smart off the list!
For the past few months we have been scaling back and focusing on what really matters. We’ve broken down everything, from our process to our content, and are going back to our roots. We are making sure our mission statement connects with our content and inspires our readers to live a life they love inside and out. We adore our readers and want to make sure everything we are posting aligns with Best Friends For Frosting 110%.
One common theme we like to have here at N+V is support of other women enterprises that have strong missions behind them. Melissa most definitely has accomplished that. We can’t wait to see what comes next out of this AMAZING lady!
Loved this interview (I’m such a fan of BFFF!)
